Welcome to my world - a world of dogs, cats, and so many other critters. Animals have been a huge part of my life for my entire existence, so it is only natural that my career involves them too!
Zen Dog started as a dream, as I sat in my office chair in the environmental consulting firm where I worked. I didn't see myself as a consultant until I reached retirement, and I was looking for a way out. I was sitting in my office chair on that fateful day in 2011, brainstorming possibilities that would get me out of my consulting career and into one that was more fulfilling and made me happier. I knew I wanted to work with animals, but I wasn't sure in what capacity.
In my online searching, I stumbled across animal massage. My first thought was, "Wow, that's a thing? I want to do that!"
Thus Zen Dog was born! I spent the first couple of years as an animal massage company, but I still wasn't satisfied. I wasn't growing fast enough to leave my corporate job. I had already been working on the side as a pet sitter for a local company, and I really enjoyed that work. So I made the decision to add pet sitting and dog walking services in 2013.
Fast-forward to exactly one year later, in 2014, I quit my corporate job and became a full-time pet care specialist!
Over a decade in business and hundreds of happy clients later, we are so grateful to be successful doing what we love - taking care of your pets like they are ours. It's like getting to spend every day with our best friends!

First things first - CONTACT US! We will ask you for a general location so we can determine if you are in our service area. We will discuss your needs for each of your pets and the dates you need service.
Once we determine that we are able to help you, we set up a day and time for Zen Dog's owner, Stephanie Sorensen, to come to your house to meet you and your pets and get the lay of the land. We will also get your email address so we can send you the Service Agreement and a Veterinary Form to fill out, sign and send back to us.
At the meet and greet, Steph will meet and assess your pets to determine whether or not we are a good fit for them. You can show her where all of the pet supplies are located, such as food, litter boxes, water bowls, garbage bags, etc. and talk about the expected care for each pet.
Two copies of your house key are required, which will be kept in a locked key cabinet in our home office for future use. If you have electonic means into the house, then one copy of a key is needed as a backup in the event the electronic means fail (it happens!). A credit card is also required to book. Both the keys and credit card information will be collected at the consultation.
We use scheduling software that was designed specifically for pet care businesses! After the consultation, you will be invited to create an account, put in all of your information about your house and your pets, and request your visits for our approval.
Using an app for pet care is so cool! Not only will we have all the information we need to do a stellar job taking care of your pets at our fingertips, but you get journal entries after each visit with notes and pictures, so you can see in real time how your pets are doing while you're away. It is 21-century peace of mind!
Once your account is set up, you just login using the login information you created, and request your pet care! We will approve it (or contact you in the event of a conflict), set your credit card to charge the full invoice amount on the first day of service, and you are good to go! At that point in time, we will have everything we need to take care of your pets, and no further action is needed.
Payment by cash or check is also accepted, but please note that if payment is not left for us on the first visit, your card will be charged for the full invoice amount.
